Episode No. 5.5 | Yin and Yang, Expanded

How do we let go of old labels of how men and women should behave and express themselves?

In episode 5.5 we’re excited to bring on our first male guest, family attorney and couples mediator, John Hoelle. He shares his wisdom to broaden our perspectives of Yin and Yang as a quadrant of four energies: Feminine Yin and Feminine Yang as well as Masculine Yin and Yang.

Some of questions shaping this conversation:

  • How can we express ourselves as men with a softer side and women with a go-getter attitude, without being labeled a “pussy” or “bossy” respectively?
  • Is there broader view of masculine and feminine energies that allows us to be a bigger version of ourselves and take back our power to be all of who we are?

After you listen in, we want to hear from you! What are your ideas on masculine Yin and feminine Yang?

Episode No. 5 | Creating Boundaries

How can we set boundaries that support ourselves and the people around us?

Episode 5 brings us further into the conversation around the masculine and feminine and how the energies express in our bodies and in our lives with the boundaries we create, with life coach and somatic practitioner, Sarah Sherwood.

Some of questions shaping this conversation:

Many of us grow up with an understanding of two types of boundaries: rigid and porous. Rigid boundaries are unyielding and keep others at a distance, while porous boundaries lead us down a path where it’s difficult for us to say no and we become over-involved in the problems of others. It’s the wounded masculine and wounded feminine at play. We spoke with Sarah Sherwood, a somatic practitioner and coach about how masculine and feminine energies play out as we integrate information and how we can create healthy boundaries that support and connect us all.

After you listen in, we want to hear from you! Tell us how you plan to create more healthy boundaries in your life and what your “aha!” moments were in the comment section below.

Episode No. 4 | Balancing the Masculine and Feminine

How do we balance our feminine and masculine energies in life and business?

For Episode 4, we had the opportunity to change the typical podcast setup and invited Jodie Archer over to Karna’s home while Brandi was visiting. This gave us the chance to powwow in Karna’s office and have an in-person conversation about Jodie’s background in publishing, her time at Apple, and her work as a medium.

Some of questions shaping this conversation:

So often we still feel the need to compartmentalize our masculine and our feminine, and the gifts given to us around those energies. Jodie spoke about the two paths she has balanced between and how she’s integrated them in her life.

After you listen in, we want to hear from you! Tell us where you need to soften into your feminine and what your “aha!” moments were in the comment section below.

Episode No. 3 | Expanding Your Intuition

Where do you source your energy?

Our original plans for Episode 3 changed after interviewing two amazing women who have followed their intuition to discover their deeper callings. One episode, we decided, could not contain them both. So we start with Wendy De Rosa, who continues the conversation about using our voices and dives into what it means to allow our intuition to expand and engage us from the back side of our hearts.

Some of questions shaping this conversation:

The conversation around the Masculine and the Feminine can be a complex exploration. Talking to Wendy was both refreshing and had us nodding with goose bumps of recognition throughout the conversation. Be sure to download her free meditation in the resource section below.

Episode No. 2 | Finding Your Voice

What do you have to say?

The second episode of Season 1 started with a blog post Brandi wrote at the start of the year, Why I Will Not Slay 2017. She had been noticing a trend among women entrepreneurs to use works like “slay”, “crush”, and “destroy” to describe weekly business endeavors. Something felt off.

We invited Sahar Paz and Wokie Nwabueze, both trailblazing women with a passion for finding and owning your voice, to speak with us about words and our voices.

Some of questions shaping this conversation:

  • How important are our words and how we use them?
  • What is happening in our culture right now around women’s voices?
  • How can we be more conscious about the voice we hear in our heads, as well as the voice we project into the world?

When we asked ourselves what needs to transform within ourselves to step into a new form of leadership, one thing was clear: we need to explore our relationship to our voices, especially as women. The stories we heard and the answers we received were both soul stirring and sometimes quite surprising… We learned that each of us has a powerful story and when we ground ourselves in our own lived truth, our voices are magnified and received by the ones around us.

After you listen in, we want to hear from you! Tell us how you are owning your voice and how you want to incorporate this work into your life in the comment section below.

Episode No. 1 | Setting the Stage

Welcome! We’re so glad you’re here.

In this first episode of the podcast, Karna and Brandi set the stage for Season 1 of The Next Leaders with a discussion about what it means to be a leader and how the masculine and feminine affect business structures and our lives.

We’ve been having conversations like this for the past four years, and a little over a year ago, started talking about creating a podcast together to bring these topics into people’s lives. Originally, our intention was that this podcast would be focused on entrepreneurs, but giving the changing political climate, we wanted to make this an even bigger conversation about what it means to be a leader in today’s world. We’ll inevitably be talking a lot about business and being an entrepreneur because that’s what our backgrounds are, but there’s something for everyone in these episodes.

Season 1 will be a set of 4-5 episodes, all focusing around the topic of the masculine and feminine. You can listen to each episode as it’s released, or binge on a Saturday morning.

After you tune in, we want to hear from you! Tell us how you are a leader in your life (perhaps in a way that isn’t so obvious…) in the comment section below.
